i didnt really know the difference between service and activism or if there was really a difference between the two. In class i sort of got the gist of the two being that service is kind of something you can do here and there and not really be very involved but knowing that you helped and made somekind of difference. Activism on the other hand i got like a view of something that people start small to make a change somewhere like in a community, and it ends up being something bigger and you really change the way people look at something and then they start helping and its just something that a person lives for everyday to change. i wish i was passionate about something like rajeev was so that i can go out and change the world little by little like he did. Eventually it will make a bigger difference somewhere else.

Village Voice was a great story to read. It really connected to what we were talking about in class. in the Eggers stories we talked in class about how the soldier story was about a man who felt that he didnt do much with his life and it really made him sad to see this soldier who gave up his life to fight for our country and died doing so. The other story being about a father telling his daughter with such excitement and pride, the obstacles they overcame and the wonderful things him and his wife did together. The village voice story really shows the life that Rajeev has dedicated his life to helping others. He puts so much of his time and life into the Peace Corps. He hasn’t wasted any time in his life; Rajeev has ever reason to be proud of the work he has done so far. It’s really encouraging how even when things didn’t turn out the way he wanted them to he never let it get to him. Rajeev continued on and did everything he could to help. i really like that in our class we have the opportunity for service learning projects. it maybe not be as big as Rajeev’s plans but the little that we can do helps a lot some where else. I really think that doing service-learning projects really changes the way we think about our lives. We learn about other places that are in need and it really makes us realize how much we have and how much we take for granted. Rajeev has a great privilege to see in person what is needed in other place, and he has been able to put his helping hands to work.

After reading both of Eggers short stories, i enjoyed reading Your Mother and I more than the other one because the one about the soldier or so i thought it was about the soldier seemed very sad and the guy was just very lonely. Your mother and I is about the father and a daughter cooking in a kitchen, and the father is telling the stories of how him and his wife have done so much through out their lives together, side by side. Its so much more exciting, and exaggerated too, but i think that just makes it so much better. After discussing in class both of these short stories, i do see how one story was about the man and his life alone, compared to the life the other man lived with wife. the husband and wife stuck together through out all the years of doing big bold things together until the day they got married which is where the story ended. the other story is just about this man and how hes lived his life doing nothing exciting, nothing to be proud of, and he sits in tears because in across the world there was a soldier fighting for our country til he was killed. I think it just really puts the thoughts in our heads about what we want for our lives. what do we want to be proud of? Are we going to be that man sitting in tears and sadness because we havent done anything or are we going be the father telling our kids the exciting proud life we have lived.

Im not really sure what ecological literacy means, if I took I guess I would say it was being aware of our surroundings, having knowledge in whats going on in our communities, being active or getting involved in our communities like recycling or helping cleaning our environments. Basically helping keep our communities better places and keeping them clean. I believe one can become ecologically literate by doing simple things in our everyday lives. One thing is putting garbage in the right containers. It may not be much but its something to help. Putting the recycling in a recycling bin and trash in the trash bins. One become ecologically literate by simply understanding what it means and taking action. When you start to understand the meaning, you become more aware of protection the ecosystem and taking better care of the environment that we live in and the environments that surround us. After reading, I read the definition of ecologically literate means to really understand the natural systems like the ecosystem that make our lives on earth a better place to live in. I some what believe that I am ecologically literate because I do not fully understand it, but I try to do little things to help in out everyday lives like recycling, picking up trash, and conserve water or light as much as possible.

after reading the grading contract it seems the gist of it is making sure we put effort into our work to get the grade we want, and obviously if you don’t put effort towards the work you get poor grades, seems very fair and clear to what you expect from us.
