My journal entry for this week is about “Models, Templates, And Creativity, Oh My! I do agree that when you write a paper you must win the readers attention. Once, the reader’s attention is gained then you are on a road of success. The whole purpose of writing material is to amuse, entertain or explain the point you are trying to get at. As far as the language my go you don’t always have to use I feel tradition language. Unless you are gaining the interest of an older crowed that is not familiar with specific terms that you choose. It is sometimes good to use the templates because it does help you layout what you are trying to explain to the reader. If you loose the reader then there isn’t any purpose to the information that you are writing. You have to always be focused on the subject and the age level that you are providing this information to. They are the key to the success if you are trying to get a grade or simply submitting it for a contest. I do understand that as you mature in whatever you are trying to accomplish then you can start making more concrete decisions. I have to say for a teacher to mention that it is more to class then to count the number of absences, missed class participation and late arrivals. If I must say myself that is awesome. I do understand that counts but, it is other things to focus on more than that.

Food for Service the Brings a Smile to Your Face
As my group and myself started to plan for this project I just seeing a tunnel that never ends. Meaning, that we have to go out and find an organization that is going to allow us to come in there facility and offer our services. But, the hard part is finding an organization that will allow us to come in on short notice. I think we should been able to start this project on spring break so, that we could of had more time to get on the waiting list or even try to get involve with something that was interesting or part of goal that we wanted to accomplish. But, I guess it really doesn’t matter.
Needless to say everything that came to my groups mind either had a waiting list a mile long or some form of criteria that we had to meet in order to get started. Our groups, first suggestion was to be part of daycare setting to help children in various different ways such as reading to them, playing education games or even help prepare healthy lunches. Now, I suppose it’s time to drink some caffeine and put on our strongest thinking cap possible to make something happen. The clock isn’t waiting. Time is truly running out. I would have never thought something for a good cause would be this big of a headache to accomplish something good. Now, it makes me think how people that commit a crime can get community service with no problem. Now, people like ourselves that are doing a project for school is catching it from all ends trying to complete it. And they say doing good pays off! Just kidding. We will find something.
But, the unfortunate part was that you needed to have a background check, medical evaluation and fingerprints. That will all result in about a five to ten day period if not longer depending on their agency that they are using. I had my information completed because I volunteered at a daycare on my spring break but, one of my other group mates had hers also from a previous medical training problem that she was in. But, the other young lady didn’t so, we didn’t have the type of time to wait so, we have continued to hunt down what we can. This way we all can participate. We have called an organization called PADS, daycare and shelters all across the south side even to north side but there wasn’t anything available or no one called us back. Our primary goal at this put is to find somewhere that we can provide a service to children or families in need. Some kind of way. So, now we have finally come across an organization from Moraine Valley Community Church which has a food pantry that I have not volunteered at so far. I do plan on volunteering soon so, I can have this project completed and I’m able to move forward with this class. This also makes me super excited for one we have found somebody to allow us to do the service hours, for two I’m able to give back some of my time and for three I’m doing my best to stay on top of the requirements for this class. All I can say at this point, Professor McGuire has given me a workout for this assignment. If I must say.
My goal is to hear how there organization was started. See how many people they have there without any volunteer help. Is there pastor have any hands on for this food pantry. Do they partner up with any other Christian organization in their community? I even want to know who they pass their food out to, what are their personal goals and how do they obtain their food at the pantry. I’m also aware sometimes that the food pantries have expired food if so, what are there limitations? I do think from the experience and knowledge that I have on food pantries it’s a good organization to have in every area because everyone don’t have the means to always be able to purchase food. So, to have an organization around like this one really means a lot. Some people already don’t feel good about needing help to obtaining food. But, coming from a church organization is even better because you may need some form of spiritual up lifting and motivation to get through a situation you are currently going through. How perfect to be in a church where you have people there ready to help you through a troubling time. So, it’s like killing to birds in one stone. You can get help in the right direction in order to move forward in your life that you had no idea of getting out of. A food pantry gave you motivation to get a lot of information that you never thought you could have obtained.
This organization takes place in a church. I have been wondering what they will have me to do in to help for my volunteer time. As I think about this food pantry I can imagine that they want me to help organize it from the vegetables, dairy products or even dye items etc. You always think about the worst but, once you get there it turns out to be a blast or an experience that you never will forget. This kind of put me in mind with the “Share Your Soles” event that I had no clue what we was getting ourselves into. Once, we got there and spoke with Mona Purdy and saw what the organization was about. It was such an amazing experience that I would never forget it a day in life. I’m pretty sure that this will be the same way. It thought of help people that are less fortunate than you. This is also an eye opener that you have to count your blessings for the position that you are in because it can be you. You hear of stories on how people give back but, I never been to an organization like previous mention on how a person took the time to help another country out. That is pretty amazing to me. You never hear of hard work all this put in this by one person that saw such horrible and inhumane situation like not have shoes and decided to put the word out in her city. This is almost like saying it takes a village to raise a child. But, you are saying it take a village from the United States to help provided another country shoes. What we all should learn after these projects is over. We should always help people that are less fortunate because this always seem to make you a person feel good and help create a smile on others faces. I hope to offer more knowledge and gain will power to try and help our organizations at least once to twice a month to give back to the less fortunate. I feel by given this time back to the community it can help someone out there get on their feet, let them know someone do care or give them something that they never thought would or could happen to them. I always believe that something so, little can brighten a smile or motive a life of happiness for a longtime. Bring a smile to your face.

My journal entry was about “The One That Got Away”, this title was making me think that it is about an object or somebody in general was able to get away. I never would have thought that the author was going to talk the history of his family and how much he really didn’t know about them. It was truly surprising! Sometimes, we do take for granted information about your family until tree until we have to do a paper or research about this topic. The same type of thing happens to me back in high school. After, you go around and get information from the elders of the family I find it extremely interesting on this information that they give you in full detail like it just happen yesterday. You may find out that you have family members that stay in your neighborhood or even what type of things took place back then. Tom’s story was interesting and it was cool that he had family that he could go and get this research from so, he can learn more about his heritage. I think it is ashamed that it take most of us have to do a research project in order to find this information out. In some people case if you don’t do your research because of a school project you may never know. Where you came from, who is your family or not and even how your ancestors grow-up. But, after reading this story, I’m glad to know that it was just me that went through this.

My journal entry is about “Why Money Won’t Cut It and Why Extra Credit Makes You Stupid”, is an interesting title that I couldn’t wait to find out what it was actually talking about and what the meaning of everything was. After, reading the article I can agree that you have to enjoy what you are doing in order to get something out of it. I personally have always had the feeling that if I can’t enjoy what I’m doing it is hard to get my heart and soul. You can always do something to get by because you do need money to survive and feed your family but, meanwhile you need to stop and think what will make your life more enjoyable. This means what jobs you will be more comfortable at. This may result you to go back to school. Just remember to do your best at whatever you do and you will survive. I don’t agree at hundred percent that extra is all bad because you maybe a hard worker that is totally focus on the class or classes and you are trying to obtain that A and you are a few points away from getting it. I don’t think this should mean that your performance, your personal satisfactions and purpose aren’t there. This means that you are trying to get what you deserve by putting in a little more effort to move forward to you goals. Overall this article was very interesting. But, don’t always think that people are not putting there all to get where they are trying to go.

This article about the “Feelings of Inadequacy and the College Experience” really was really good information to read. I feel that Eric DeVillez put some time into thinking what the students or readers needed to hear about school and how to handle the situation. Because you sometimes don’t know what you are walking into or maybe that quiet person that don’t talk a lot in a group setting. I can truly relate to that myself! It is also good to hear that some teachers feel that way. Throughout my years in school i always had the feeling that teacher that let off the feeling that they are better than that student which in some cases was good and other cases not so, good. I feel this article pointed out the flaws on the student and the teacher and was able to give off positivity that helps you understand both sides. School is not an easy setting i see even from a teacher perspective. I guess we have to always keep in mind that we all are human. This article also gives me the insight if you put your mind and your attention into school at a one hundred percent. I feel you and everyone else will get success out of it. I now see that you have to always keep an open mind to anything that you do in order to get good from it all. Out of all the stories that I have read in this book I feel this one is a good motive and huge hug of success.

This is a great story that Professor McGuire has written about his six year old son. When kids are going through this development stage. They do ask every question possible. In specific ways that is good but, to adult like Professor McGuire and me it is pretty annoying that you have to gather your patients in order from reacting. The good thing this is a stage that children go through and it truly test your patients as an adult. I do understand because my three year old ask the what, when, where and why questions all the time. If I turn down a street that is unfamiliar to him. He is asking why did I have to go this way and I should go the other way. I have no patience for adults like “Joe” because by this time in your life you should have a better handle on a situation like this. When you start to be combative and unarguable then is a problem and this is considered a major situation. To me this situation is so, bad that you should go and get some form of professional help. It is not safe for you to continue going though life not understanding why you should listen sometimes and not always have an answer. Sometimes if you go to a teacher or a high authority you see what they have to say before you go crazy. We are never too old to learn. We can always learn something on day bases in our life.

This article is right if it wasn’t for the way things are taught to us or how things in the world are based on race, color, religion and sexual organization as well as our things in our life that we are fighting and struggle with then there wouldn’t be a hate in our world today. There are things out there like the Rodney King situation that took headlines nationwide. My personal thought on that there made more hate and thoughts because now someone has been hurt based on the color of their skin and has bought all type of emotion that is hard to put in perspective. The cycle of socialization is too broad to learning that much about them. The best thing that you can do is learn about your own because it gives the personal experience and knowledge on the experiences that you are aware of. I feel this article is trying bringing peace from around d the world and giving you a piece of in site. The sad part this not going to change people’s minds on in order to move forward. This article is pointing out factors that are amazing to be part of because it also tells you where and when you will learn more about gender, religion and our things that you may not have learned in your cultural or simply what you just was taught. This doesn’t mean it’s good or bad. Overall, life can take you through the cycle of socialization.

Share What You Have and More Wil Come
The reflection on my service project with Share Your Soles. The Share Your Soles organization is a place to be. Mona really is a strong individual to just pick up and provide these types of services to in our community to help people that don’t have. Mona really put a food of thought on your mind because you just don’t know what our countries have to go through until you here about stories like these. It’s amazing to see that one person started such a strong organization to help extend their helping hand in to those who are less fortunate. Just from listening to Ms. Mona she was experiencing a lot of things with this journey that she’s taking. She shared personal stories and even gave you words of encouragement. Which that is great coming from the head then you know what to appreciate.
When I walked into Share Your Soles I really didn’t know what to expect because you see a big warehouse. As I walk in you saw like a living area or maybe sitting room made up into several of different things. My mind just started to wonder. But, as time went on you look ahead for miles at a time because that just how long the place is. All you see is shoes and more shoes and more shoes. I was just floored on that many shoes in a room at a time. They explained there process of washing the shoes before they ship them to different countries. I even thought it was amazing to have them clean the shoes up before they shipped them out. It was interesting to even here how people actually volunteer their time to do such a service for people. This organization is great because it really perform everything from the heart without a thought. You just wouldn’t think that it’s that many good people out here that care.
I also thought it was great to hear that and actually put visual to see what the countries look like the video was very informative. Just to see how grateful we are here in the United States. Just to see so, many young people that have to do hard labor in order to accomplish what they need to in order to be successful. I feel that have great will power to walk all those miles to school because I really don’t think I would be able to walk a block so, how can I accomplish multiple miles. On the video you saw all ages of kids walking with large jugs of water on their heads, caring them or simply trying to enjoy what they the best which is try to have some fun time in the water for fun. It makes you sit back and think about how our kids including ourselves have so much to be thankful for when you see what our people have to go through. It is just a joy to see that these little things can mean so, much to those who just don’t have.
This organization does a lot. We should take time out to see what our type of things we can do for people here that is less fortunate or our countries also because it feels amazing to give back to people that can’t make ends meet or simply can provide something little shoes in order to help them walk better and comfortably like you and I can think about a lot of our things that we can do in order to make life easier for our like food, clothes and my can help sit up organizations that can help with shelter needs.
When you give back I think it can make it easier on the world itself and it should make you feel good as an individual and you are showing that you are not selfish. If this world we leave in learned to be more helpful and nicer to one another no matter what color we are then it will be a peaceful place to be. We have to learn to love one another and more good things will come. Being helpful is a good thing it makes that mind go wonder so, it can become stronger. I feel that we need to rub off on one another in a positive way. If we get more niceness out here in today’s time then we will have more thought on what to do that is positive. If we can get the thought of positivity out there then we can get more accomplish more in the right way of helping any and everybody. If did get one thing out of this event it was staying strong. If you have strength to can put together anything that you put your mind to. It really made me do a personal evaluation of myself so, that I can determine what needs to be done in my life to put me in a stronger place to do better in the community. Once I accomplish my own personal thoughts and ideas then this will help me understand my purpose to help ours.
I think that I want to help with more and different services opportunities to give back some of my time to help the world become a better place. I think it may be my calling to see what I can do in order to help ours that is less fortunate. I guess in my eyes I have a special place in my heart for kids. For seeing the video that Mona showed us from Sharing Your Soles just to see so, many babies or young kids walking and looking tried the way that they do was enough for me. Now, it’s time for me to give back. I have already started to offer service to my son’s school. Which is not a major service project but, I think it is a start for me be around kids which I enjoy. Just by me staring at my son’s school it will give me more of a foundation to find out what I need to do in order to help little guys. It was just so cute to see the little things you do for them and how they show how much it really means to help them move forward on a positive note. I always say that kids are easiest to give and show you love back. This service idea was very helpful for me because it gave me more courage to want and get back instead of always working for my family and self. We have to always remember to try and give just a little in order to move forward in life. Great experience! I will do more.

I think you did a great job of reflecting upon the share your soles event. You explained how it made you feel, the kind of things it made you wonder, and why people should chose to get involved. I think you should have talked a little more about what exactly happened at the event and how the process went. It’s alright that you didn’t because the assignment was to reflect in a way of your reactions. I just think it would have made it better for me as the reader to know a little more about the event that made you feel this way. I do know what it was like because of read another essay about this but I do like the fact that you wrote more about the Founder “Mona Purdy”. It was all her idea and you know she does it all out of the kindness of her heart. You said she shared her experiences with the people who joined, and I know that made a difference on a couple of people’s thoughts that she first hand witnessed some tragic moments. For me, hearing the reasons why and the thoughts behind what make people commit to things like this makes it more interesting and motivating. It makes you understand how good of a person someone is because you know they don’t personally receive money for this, so they do it just to be helpful. That is someone who deserve honor to their name. It sound like a great charity for people who can’t afford shoes. I do believe that there are millions of people in the world who walk around without shoes on because they can’t afford it. People take shoes for granted every day and don’t think twice about it. Even myself, I wear certain shoes three maybe four times and throw them in the back of my closet or under my bed and never wear them again. Until today after reading these essays I never cared about the fact that i waste shoes I can be giving them to people who need them. I also know a lot of people who do the same thing, and now I want to gather as many shoes up as I can and find an organization to give them to and volunteer. I definitely agree with you on wanting to do more volunteer and charity work. You also said something about the influences on people. That is so true because a lot of people wouldn’t just get up think about donating their shoes. It’s mostly about what they read or see from others experiences that give them the thoughts to want to help and make a difference also. Then you think of all the others you will eventually influence like you have influenced me. . I don’t like to see people struggling for things that most other people take for granted every single day. I do agree that more people should get involved with this issue. It would be great if people could make money donations and shoes. I wish i would have gone because there are hundreds of shoes in my house that could be donated and I also would have gave money, I love to help when I can. If I see or hear about any other shoe donations for charity I will definitely get involved thanks to reading Corey’s essay. A lot of times it takes an influence like this for some people to get involved in service activities.

Dawn wrote her critical review of service on her Share Your Soles experience. This is the third paper I have read on the different reactions everyone’s experience, and I am truly disappointed that I was unable to attend this service opportunity due to a scheduling conflict. After reading about how amazing and inspiring this volunteer work has been for those who were able to participate, I am considering volunteering sometime soon on my own time. I did ask people around my community if they had heard about this particular organization, and I heard nothing but emotion testimonies from people who had done community service recently at the facility in Alsip, Illinois. I am embarrassed to say I have a lot of shoes. Some might consider my situation a form of shoe hoarding. I cannot get rid of shoes and I have a compulsion to buy. I have a closet full of shoes, that for whatever reason throughout the years, I was unable to get rid of regardless of the fact I don’t wear them. I think I thought it was wasteful to just toss them in the garbage. Now that I know about this organization, I feel that I can finally let go of a majority of my shoes because I am confident they are going to a good cause. I can tell that Dawn found this unique experience very inspiring, and I could feel her strong emotion while I read her well-developed paper. I was very moved about how this charity experience effected her, and gave her a different perspective of the terrible conditions and lives people go through everyday in different countries. I think that had I not taken this class, I don’t think I would have put much thought into service work not because I turn a blind eye to poverty and starvation, but because its rare that anything is on the news or even in the newspaper about these worldwide issues. I can relate to Dawn so much after reading this paper because these service events have really opened my eyes to what is really going on in the world outside this country. In the United States, you don’t pass people on the street literally starving to death, and encounter children and adults with no shoes or clothes on due to such extreme impoverishment that they cant afford to supply clothes to themselves and their family. We are so fortunate in this country because the government has set up many public aid programs to assist low-income people and food kitchens to feed to people who suffer from food insecurity. It is so easy to take something like that for granted until u go do service work and see the tragedies these people experience every single day. Definitely will change your outlook on life and appreciate the simple things we are so lucky to have such as toothbrushes, shoes, and running water. Dawn really painted a vivid picture of the facility and the affect the experience had on her, and it really inspired me to check out and volunteer some of my free time to this organization because I grew up so blessed. Thank you Dawn, you are an inspiring woman and an incredible writer. I look forward to your work in the future.

Your introduction provided background information of your service project. This is great information to know when the reader doesn’t have a clue to what you were cooperating with. You mentioned the name of Mona, It would have been a lot more clear if you mentioned that she was possibly head of the organization, or maybe just a director. It was a bit confusing to understand who she was and what role she took until maybe the ending of the paragraph. Background information was well detailed enough to know the great contributions she has done for people on this earth.
I really enjoyed how you provided details on how the location looked. You went into detail of the building to the actual furniture in there. It only makes me curious to actually go check it out and volunteer. You mentioned that there was endless amounts of shoes everywhere. I never thought that there would be such a large demand for shoes. It is great that this organization exists. When I first heard about this organization I thought the shoes were just directly shipped to countries. It is very interesting that you included that the shoes are washed before they are shipped. At this point it only makes me angry that I was not able to attend this service project.
You said that there was countries in the videos. What countries were they? You really didn’t mention on your own personal experience there. What was your task at the Share your Soles? Did you enjoy working there? Did you meet any people? I am curious to see what happened on your personal view. Do you know how many shoes your group packaged or shipped within the time you were there? Previous to this event have you ever served your community? I really enjoyed how you added details on how you felt about the outcome, how it made you stronger as a person and that it reminded you to stay strong. Positive outcomes to any task makes you want to keep on doing it.
You also mentioned that you have started to offer community service to your sons school. Do you think this experience has changed you as a mother to make your children realize not to take things for granted? Or maybe even possibly convince him to volunteer when he is a bit older? You also said that it is not a huge project, the smalles of things make such a great difference. I really enjoyed the positivity that you included towards the end of the paper. The sentences are well put together to make the reader realize that this is real life stuff. This paper made me realize myself that I must not take things for granted because you reminded me that there are so many people out there without shoes trying to keep alove. I enjoyed that you mentioned that the experience was very helpful because it gave you courage. This paper only leaves me with a frown because I was not able to attend! You did a really good job on your reflection.

I liked your reflection paper. I also helped at the Share Your Soles event. I liked seeing what another person had to say about SYS. I liked that you wrote about how you felt when you went. I think that is great. Most people just write about how the experience was and what they did. Adding how one specifically feels at one of these events shows that they really care about what they are doing. It seems as if you were inspired by this event. One thing to do is maybe write a few sentences on who Mona is. People that went on the trip know who she is. Others that were not able to attend may have questions as to who she is. I liked the detail you provided about the area that you were in. I myself did not know what to expect. I was shocked when I saw how big the warehouse and all the shoes that were there. In the third paragraph, it made me think that we take things like shoes, for granted. In addition it made me sad when viewing the videos. Everyone should have at least one pair of shoes. In the next paragraph, I agree with a lot of what you. We should take more time to help those in need. From now on instead of throwing out old shoes, I am going to donate them to people who need them. I am glad to see that this organization is helping the many people in need. That is great. However, it is not enough to help reduce this problem. More people need to become aware of the situation. Then maybe they will want to help. I liked your statement on Being good is helpful… I agree that being good is helpful. I think you; yourself have that thought of doing a good deed when helping out at a place like this. I think it also might make one seem helpful and that they can help out to those in need in the world.
Overall, I liked your reflection. You provide great detail on how you thought and how the event inspired you. I thought you could’ve gone into greater detail about what we did at SYS. If you plan to revise this draft, you could split the paper into two sections. Section one is about what you did at SYS. Section two could be about your reaction. Also, adding a small section (two-five sentences) on who Mona Purdy is would be helpful to those that could/did not attend the event. You could add a little bit of background to what SYS does and where they help those in need. In your fourth paragraph, be careful of how things are written. Some of the sentences I stumbled on because they were a little confusing. I got the idea how you wanted to say them; they just didn’t come out the right way. -

The reading of “The Machine That Is Replacing Me Getting Cheaper Every Day”, is very funny and also has the true about the outlook on school. He also was on to something when he indicated that the most people think that the knowledge from the book is going to come to you naturally without doing any form of research or simply reading the chapter. He indicated that is the best way of not passing a class. This means you aren’t that serious about it. It is also true when they say that high school is a good factor on what type of college student you will be. If school isn’t that appealing to you then it may not be for you. With school you have to be very creative and have an open mind do, what you need to in order to get through your classes. You have to have an open mind to explore and create activity to be successful in the different opportunities in life. Mr. Swanson is also on to something when he indicated that you have large systems in our governments, charitable organizations and several of religious organizations. This is where your creative and development comes to play because without those two things then it is hard for you understand people for all walks of life and get though the obstacles that you are trying to overcome. For what I received from this reading is not everything is easy including school. Just keep that open mind and you will overcome

A Dark Shadow over My Head Dear Editor…
A Dark Shadow over My Head
Dear Editor,
I recently did some research on a hot topic of Alcoholism. Alcoholism is a legal drug I feel that everyone does not know how to control it. This has been in Chicago headlines a lot lately that people have been going the wrong way on the expressway. Not only have they been hurting there selves but, other innocent people around them. The sad part is that people can continue buying more and more no matter what. The key thing is there aren’t any limitations on how much you can get. The sad part with me personally, is that I have an uncle that don’t drive but, have a problem consuming alcohol that it has taken his live over. I always feel that I want to continue to go places and help people like my uncle gain more willpower for themselves. I do believe the reason people go, to the extreme of alcohol because they have no support system, lack willpower, no moral purpose of life and they don’t know how much they are hurting the people around them. I feel if we can advertise more about alcohol instead of promoting to buy and given more statics on the harm of alcohol. Then I feel people will be more alert on why you should be part of that team and being more part of saying no to alcohol. Please help me get this awareness out to the world so, they can see that alcohol abuse isn’t the key of staying cool in society.
Sincerely,
Dawn Murry

It’s astonishing to me how many people abuse themselves with alcohol knowing there is no good outcome. Personally I’m not 100% against drinking alcohol; I just believe there have to be limits. I have personally seen a lot of people do dumb things and regret it while they were under the influence. Most of the people in my family drink and only a few of them can control it. Though, I have heard a lot of people say they don’t know when they’re too drunk because it sneaks up on them or something like that. I don’t know how reasonable that sound, but I have never been drunk before so I wouldn’t know what it’s like. Personally, I’m afraid because of all the mistakes I’ve seen people made because of drinking alcohol. I am completely against underage drinking. I hate seeing my friends and family members drink under age but no matter what I say they are going to do it anyway. It’s like they think its amazingly cool and it’s something they have to do and that is absurd. I’ve heard some people say it make them have more fun or something. I think people who drink legally should only do it for special occasions and celebrations and stuff not just because they sit in the house and they’re bored. There are some really sad things that result from people drinking alcohol. The most tragic incident to me is people who drink and drive and end up killing people. That is the saddest thing to me because, the drunk person end up in jail and have to live with knowing they killed a whole family. Also people who are related to those that lose their lives because of someone else mistake. It’s a huge emotional problem for me when I see people I love drinking a lot just because. I just want to tell them how I feel but then I think it won’t make a difference. I really hate seeing people constantly drink because they are addicted to it and they feel that they need it. Dawn stated that there aren’t any limitations to how much alcohol people can get. That is a very true and affective statement. That is also terrible because people can go into a liquor store and buy tons and tons of liquor as long as they have the money the clerk will sale it to them not thinking about the horrible outcome. Though it can be for a huge party but even then that mean a huge amount of drunken people. Drunken people don’t think about consequences, or outcomes. I wish it was just some sort of way that human bodies can detect how much alcohol is being consumed and it turns the alcohol into water. That might sound foolish or funny but I really wish it was true. This is an issue that will never be able to be controlled, but I think there should be more news about this issue to get people to start thinking better, legal drinkers and underage.

It really makes me sad to see how many people have problems with alcohol. I believe there should be strict limits on how much you can get. I hear about all the stories that people share/tell when they were drunk. Honestly, when I hear these stories, I think of how dumb people can be sometimes. I have not been drunk before. My parents don’t drink. So I do not know the feeling. I’m not saying that I will probably never be drunk, but it is not a habit I want to have. I think there should be stricter rules for people who participate in underage drinking. I’m just not sure what can be done about it. I see lots of pictures on social network sites of my friends partying with all their alcohol. They post all their pictures with them holding a beer. I don’t get what it so cool about that. I think it is just stupid. I just don’t get why they think it is so cool. In my opinion, you should only drink once in a while. When people are drunk they do not seem aware of the damage they can do while under the influence. People do not seem to have an idea of when to stop drinking. They also think they can drive when drunk. When a drunken person drives, it puts everyone in danger. Most people that drive drunk get into serious accidents and end up killing others. Then they end ruining the lives of others and going to jail for life. People need to be more aware of how they act when they drink. They also need to be aware of how many drinks they have. We need to come up with stricter rules/laws on alcohol limits. We do not need to go to the extreme of the Prohibition era. We also need to come up with stricter rules for underage drinking.
Dawn has a good letter here and has stated some interesting points. This is an issue that has become more of a problem over the years and we need to really do something about it. I also liked the personal story you added. I think that shows the people reading the letter know that you really care about this topic and you want to do something about it. I would like to do something about this issue but I do not know where to start. Keep up the great work.

As I was reading the journal entry for “Googling Is Not the Same as Thinking”. I really, thought that was a great topic of choice. It is true about the world Google’s everything. Before I actually put thought into it. I had to laugh because that is funny and it makes no, sense how a manmade device has taking that much control over the way we think. Overall, we are so dependent on these different types of devices that we just don’t know what direction to turn to. I know myself I am bad. I believe I wake up checking e-mails or news, throughout the day I’m checking and looking up things and I even go to bed doing the same thing. I believe that I’m so, intoned in my device that my three year old is the same way. He can operate the device better than me. Not until a few classes ago I did realize that we are so, focus on Google that people have forgot how to go to the library and do old fashion research on a topic of choice. After, reviewing this reading topic this is a major factor on how everyday life is ran. This has to be a major topic for everyone in today’s time because guess what everyone is on Facebook and other different social networks. All these different networks consist of using a computer device. Professor McGuire couldn’t have put it in better words by saying “Googling is not thinking”. He is so, right!

The journal reading about “Finding Balance “by Tom Dow is really fun and true. When you are a child growing up you will never know if you’re doing wrong if no one corrects you. You have to have some form of structure given to you. The way the author put it he called it balance is true. This is something that starts from when you are a youth so, you can develop these skills as you get older. I love the way that he preannounced the name Leonard. But, back to if know one corrected him them he wouldn’t know what to say. I also feel the same way as the author. When you go through a journey yourself you always will be alert about that situation in the future. So, he decided to go with his wife to their daughter’s teacher and request for specific things to take place in order for their daughter to be at a level of reading before she moves on to the next grade. They didn’t even hesitate to volunteer their time in order to make it happen. They didn’t only volunteer their time they even worked one on one with the teacher to make sure all information that was needed they had. They made it fun and exciting! This way they can gain the kids interest so, they will never forget the experience and make them successful in their life. The author also points a good point that we have to give credit the educational system before young adult of adult gets to college. Because of a lot of people success is the reason why there here today.

A Dark Shadow over Your Head When a…
A Dark Shadow over Your Head
When a dark shadow is placed over your head you sometimes in life just don’t know what to do. This dark shadow that I’m referring to is called alcoholism. Alcoholism is an abusive substance that is put into your body that causes harm to your organs. This is also something that takes over your mind and controls your brain to a point that you don’t know what to do. Some people say that they are able to stop on their own. But, for others it isn’t that simple. They may have to go through rehab. This is a place that you check yourself into so, that the therapist can help you through your struggle. When you are in this rehabilitation center they will administer medicine that can help you fight the demon of alcohol. This demon can make you change into another person that’s why some many other people can be hurt besides yourself because they are trying to help the person with the problem. Which mean they lose focus on their lives, kids or work. Because there life is so, focus on the alcoholic abusers problem. Even in some cases you can be walking down the street and can be scared of an alcoholic that is coming across your path. Not sure who they are but, they look very unapproachable. They reason for is that they may be talking to the self, walking a little or simply that able to function in society the way people should.
With this unfortunate, problem with the intake of alcohol abuse you have to be careful because a mind filled with a demon can cause a problem with the society you live in. the alcohol can be so, dangerous that somebody drink and drive, go places and become abrupt and even cause harm to their selves. You hear all the time about car accidents the hurt or kill innocent people or even yourself because of alcohol abuse. The abuse is so, bad that it takes your mind into a place where it never has been before. At that point, you harm other that’s around you in some way.
With information that I located well doing research found sometimes alcoholism can be a genetic situation where it is a learned behavior. The learned behavior could come from you parents who have to same form of problem with the demon of abuse. Babies can gain this learned behavior because their mothers was drinking during their nine months of pregnancy. Of course, you can’t have a drink at infancy but, that desire sticks with you all your life. That you will have behavior issue while grow up. So, as an adult grow into this major alcoholic that seemly you don’t have any control of. Some signs of this abusive situation are depression, everyone around you does it so why not and even at a point that your anxiety kick in. With the depression you go off into this setting where you just aren’t happy at that moment in time. This takes place a lot with young kids where they are around their peers and this is what they do. So, as a young person you’re thinking why can’t I. Just one time can cause a life of problems moving forward with a weak spirit. At times, anxiety of where your nerves kick in and you just can’t maintain yourself so, you go to what makes you comfortable which is alcohol. All of these things are how things life of depression starts off. When depression starts to fall into place then it’s going to take willpower to turn this thing around. For some, people that can just slow down cold turkey without any assistance at all. Others need a little more effort. They do not have that form of willpower to prevent this demon of alcohol abuse to stop and come to an end. It is normal for a depression to occur when you have a condition of alcohol abuse. If it becomes unbearable then that’s where you should be placed in a clinical depression unit. This unit can help you maintain your thoughts and control your feelings that so, that you are able to move forward. Everyone isn’t always capable of this difficult process. In some cases the process typically takes about nine to twelve months at a time but, it is extremely difficult that you just fighting the demons that is your head. These will take over you but, you have to willpower that you will win. This is where mind over matter has to kick in because that’s when the body feels weird. You are weak, sick to your stomach (vomiting), skin feel likes something is crawling on you and just feel like a walking zombie. When a person feels this way because the process is so, difficult that they may have thoughts of suicide, harming others or simple go into a rage. They will have a staff that is trained to be there with you at all times. This way they are able to protect your safety from your own self. That’s when stress kicks in. Sometimes the stress is so, unbearable that it will kill you faster than the actual abuse of the demon. We call this roller coast ride.
The sad part about this long process some people have life’s that are put on hold. They lose their jobs and truly fall on hard times. I personally can relate to this situation. I have an uncle that is in this situation for years now unfortunately. Where he has a god gifted talent on building anything that is placed in front of him. A carpenter I say but, he just can’t fight the demon of alcohol to move forward. He has had good jobs throughout the years but, wasn’t able to keep them due to his weak willpower to move forward. The family and I have taken him to different rehabilitations centers throughout Illinois. Before, we get back home he did beat us there. Then it was sometimes that he actually stayed in the places for months at a time without any problem them comes back to home and relapse. I often ask him why he gives that easily. He uses blame it on the neighborhood is his weak place. So, okay now let’s try something different. So, this time out of a thousand different attempts. We decided to send him to our grandparent’s home town in the country after he gets out again. This way the house is a far back road that you don’t have excess to a store, a bus stop, people that you know that can bring you the alcohol or you even be afraid of him wondering off thinking he can walk himself. One thing that we did allow him to have was cigarettes. He needed something to help through this challenge you just can’t cut everything cold turkey. After the end, of the day to stay down there for about two months was good. Okay, to move forward he convinced us that he has control of the demon of abuse. When he is ready to get the “Dark Shadow Over His Head” to be removed. I remember tell him that he had to get down on his knees and pray to our dear Lord and ask for strength to carry him through. I can remember my grandmother and great grandmother really getting exciting for this breakthrough. He came back to Chicago and I can say he was here for about thirty days and did let his life go back as usual. That’s when the family start to do a little more research on what can be done or even what the problem was. Once, again he was willing to go to a therapist that diagnosed him with a brain disorder that the chemical release wasn’t balanced out to help him fight off the abuse of alcohol. The alcohol allowed him to function and balance out the unbalanced chemicals in is brain. That’s why his will power is not there at all. Now, after a number of years of doctors, thepists and medication nothing has him through this terrible alcoholic abusive situation. The abusive situation he has is so, strong that it has turned into a massive disease that has taking over his body, mind and soul without alcohol he will not serve. It is truly sad to say if he doesn’t want the help he will never be will enough to function in society.
In Chicago, they have a rehabilitation center in for call the New Hope Recovery Center where they bring you into their faculty do something called and assessment to see what kind of help you need. Once, that information is diagnosis then they will do the intake steps. This clinic is for patients that are willing to stay at their treatment without a fight. If you don’t want to stay you can go. It’s a free at will place to be located on the north side of Chicago in Lincoln Park Hospital. At Lincoln Park Hospital they have you come in a put you in the designated detoxification that fits your needs. Then you will be assigned to doctor that specialize in the condition that you have so, they can take you step for step. These doctors go to school to help with alcohol abuse and know what medication to offer you. It’s an old saying that states “Better Late Than Ever”. No matter how long it’s been it always time for help.
The hospital is designed for all people of various problems. The program they have is called a twelve step program that has places for them to feel like they are at home. In mini, apartments. Breakfast is prepared so, that they can have they nice balance for day. They base their living off a structure life style to give them meaning of living. Give them not only support for their abusive demon of alcohol but, support for what they are missing in order to make life a successful of comfort that is presented in a structured everyday life. Once, they see you are a point within your twelve steps then you will qualify for someone to help you establish employment or see if you are interested to volunteer in the clinic to help others that are a little slower at getting it. Even if you have graduated to a point that you can go home there are many different outpatient treatment programs that you can involve in. If you are not an alcohol facility and you feel like is going in the wrong direction than you can call a toll free number to speak with a live representative to get you through the vulnerable moment so, you will not relapse. You can also, have other options for you burn a lot of unwanted energy to positive roads of success. Like, yoga class is offered or any work out equipment in the gym that can help. This is helping retract the mind into a positive outlook of strength. The awesome part is you can do all of this that can help you maintain a healthy body, mind and spirit to move forward towards a positive future. An Extended Care facility also is provided just in case of a down moment.
Sometimes, after the twelve step program is completed that’s just isn’t enough for a person to get better especially, after years of the alcohol demon to disappear. The patient often have an extended twenty-eight day residential inpatient program that will coordinate the next step of success, education of the alcoholic tendency and counseling for you to know why it’s important for the person in particular to make this focus on the treatment the one to be. This place knows that there treatment comes with love caring spirits that help you get through this obstacles of horror. This is designed that you aren’t the only one that’s in this type of situation. You can set back and observe the other stories and see that you are not alone. These stories that people share can be a sign of happiness for you because, everyone at that point can be encouragement for you. This how you well meet new people and by this will not be as hard when you know there is others around you on the same page. Most of these programs only allow you in the program to participate on a service bases. But, if any outsiders want to take part they need to interview you like you are going on a job interview and find out a little about. Once, all that information has been taken into consideration here you go on the day provided to going to into the hospital and provides all the services that you need to have and know about this demon of abuse. You can share a story about yourself personally from an experience or just a one that has put you through a lot in order to make life hard for you. This doesn’t mean that you don’t have advice or don’t have an inspiration to give. The person that was there for an alcoholic abuser has a story to tell and share more than they do. They have to live with them through it all. Sometimes, in my family situation with my uncle maybe we can understand him better if we were drunk. This was a joke just to get us through the tuff road of hell that he had us facing. I’m a firm believer that abuser hurts just as hard as the support system. The reason being they want that person back in there life so, bad especially if it’s a spouse that you are almost willing to do whatever you have to be hold.
If anyone wants to call the New Hope Recovery Center they should call 773-883-3916 or stop by and visit there facility at 2835 N. Sheffield Avenue Suite 407 Chicago, Illinois 60657. I also have a second option that you can visit to find out which one is best for you. The Hazelden is also located at 875 N. Dearborn Street Chicago, IL 60610-3371. You can contact them at 800-257-7810. The good part about both of these locations they are available twenty-four hours a day.

I liked this paper. You also had a very good title that made me want to read and see what this draft was all about. I liked the opening sentence. I thought it really is a good attention getter for the reader. I liked how you give a simple definition of alcoholism. I liked how you wrote that alcohol can turn you into a demon. I never really thought of it that way until reading this paper. I liked in the second paragraph you listed some of the ways that alcoholism can really change who you are and that it can cause harm to others around you and to yourself.
In the third paragraph, I liked that you wrote about the problems that alcoholism could cause throughout your life. I learned some new things while reading this paragraph. I agree that some people do not have enough willpower to stop drinking. They always come up with the excuse “This is my last drink”. Most of the people that say that continue drinking. Others do have some sort of willpower and eventually will try to overcome this problem. You should try to reference where you found this research from.
In your next paragraph, I like the personal connection. I always like when writers add a personal connection it makes a difference in the paper. I feel that in some cases you can I liked how you connected the title of you paper into the fourth paragraph. I really liked this paragraph. The personal story helps a lot. In my opinion it shows that the writer cares about the topic they have chosen, or has taken the time to turn this into a really good paper. The section on place that you can go to in relation to the topic was good. You provided good information about the place. It was interesting to read about the different programs that were offered at this place to help people overcome their problem with alcoholism.
Overall, I really enjoyed your paper. I liked how you gave a brief description on what your topic was about and what problems come along with alcoholism. I liked you compared alcoholism to a demon. I thought that was a great comparison. If you give a comparison, then the person reading has a better understanding of what you are trying to say. I wasn’t quite sure on if there was a section that provided information for those that wanted to get involved or help out. All the other sections were very nicely done. When I was reading you works cited, I could not figure out where you used these sources in your paper. Maybe try to add a source after a paragraph, or at the end of a sentence. The other thing I would do is watch out for a few spelling errors and punctuation errors. I noticed them in the intro paragraph. I tried not to focus on them as that is not what I am here to write about. It is more of a suggestion. The paper was very well written. Keep up the great work.

The article of “You Can’t Dodge All the Bullets” just by reading the title I automatically thought of killing and guns are involved. O my god there are a lot people that are going to be hurt or killed over pretty much of nothing. I’m pretty sure. As I continued through this topic then you see that wasn’t the direction of this story at all. The story started off explaining how a daughter was extremely annoying to her father and the father would get upset and saying these big words to the daughter. Needless to say the daughter didn’t even understand what those words mean so, she continued asking more questions that made the dad upset. They even made a valet point on how mistakes that grown men make in there writing. This is indicating that just because you are adult this doesn’t mean you can write perfectly or even without mistakes. A learn learned that everyone make mistakes. Overall, I thought this was great reading because it tell the truth on reactions when people not even just young children can’t understand the directions or can’t get a math problem that isn’t so simply that start to stomp there feet and start falling out because we think including myself that’s going to get you somewhere. All that frustration can’t get you anywhere so, relax and get some understand on the story or math problem. Move forward! I know I always forget this myself but, you always have to think positive and the positive things will come.

The words service and activism I really didn’t give it a thought until Professor McGuire ask the question on what is the difference. As I was there thinking about it I reference service to a physical ability of helping ours in need and for activism I always put it in a catergory of politics fighting for what you believe. After it was discussed I was really surprised that they basically mean the same thing. It’s true when they say you can never learn enough.

By starting off reading this article you are already prepared thinking about what all the opinions, thoughts or even ideas that the whole village as one voice. It’s easier for you to hear one person versus the whole village. As the story goes on now, I’m not sure why Jay-z and Beyoncé name was mention because they are not even sure if the even want to help “The Peace Corp’s”. Go figure. In this village Rajeev Goyal was the head guy that went through any obstacle to try and make some form of entertainment. This guy was amazing because it didn’t even care how far he had to get it. This story makes you grateful for what you have. I don’t think no one in today’s time could have done such physical labor as these people done in this village. They are trying to get water something we all here have. This puts a lot on your mind to be thankful for. All the hard work that “The Peace Corp’s” has put in nobody on the political side didn’t even back them up. I wish I could of them in this situation because, Rajeev put his heart and soul into this situation in the middle of his education. Great job!

Live for Die for Kill for The reason…
Live for? Die for? Kill for?
The reason to live is simple for me because, I enjoy the air I breathe and the things I have here earth to enjoy. Like people such as a husband, wife, kids, grandparents, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and the list can go on and on because it displays the love you have in your heart for the people that you are around. This brings enjoyment to the purpose to live. Those things are reasoning enough to want to live for. There are other things we want to live for but, the list can go on and on all day.
In most, cases like myself now that I’m a parent there is nothing I would rather live for is my son. After having him he gives me the encouragement to work hard, rush home and even the ability to look at life in a different perspective. Life is very important to live for because it’s too short to sweat the small stuff. In order to live better I would love to get involved with more activities that help change our lives. It maybe someone out there having a hard which may be involved with physical abuse, emotional distress, shelter because they don’t know how to find it, help get kids in activities that keep positive avenues open or there may be more people like myself that want to volunteer time to help reach out to others.
When it comes down to find out what you have to live for it makes me angry that some people can’t give a strong definitive answer because, it’s something that they have to think about. When you have to think on an important topic of life and you can’t quickly respond to the questions than there is a problem that seriously need to be addressed. At that point, you need to take a stand and admit to what problem you have in order to get the help that is needed so you can see why live is an important avenue to have. You should enjoy life because that is the foundation of you and why you should be able to get through this obstacle.
In order to for me to accomplish the finer things in life I need to start the research on where the places I can volunteer my time, maybe even get my church involved in more this way I can guarantee that I will be there and even get my family to tag alone one day a week to various activities to try and make it a group activity.
Now, we are reaching another question of what would we die for? After thinking about that question I can’t really tie my mind around an answer. But, as I put more thought into I can start with my son because there is nothing that I would put my life on the line with like dying for him. If he needed a heart, liver, kidney I would want him to have it. So, he can live the life that is good for him. As I think more about the topic of dying I thought about this. I lost a very important factor of my life in October of 2010 which was my great grandmother which was 93 years old. If I could have died for her and let her stay on
earth a little while longer I think it would have been an honor. I know that sounds a little crazy but, I think it makes a lot of sense to me.
My Granny held the foundation of her family together. Not, to say it has fallen apart but, it’s so much harder to keep things on level waters. When Granny was here on earth with us everyone came around multiple times a week or at least once a week to be with her. Now, if we all get together at least once a month it’s pulling teeth. I know we all still have the love of each other at heart but, it’s something about the loving sprit that my Granny had all of us it is remarkable to even seat back and observe it. This woman was so powerful in our family’s eyes that she is still talked about almost every day. I also thought about times where if there were any form of disagreements from anybody in the family that wasn’t seeing eye to eye she would make sure that you come over to the house and see her because she felt that isn’t going to take place with her angels. No matter what we had to do you weren’t leaving her site until she had love displayed. This was the love we had for one another and she better not hear any difference later. So, now I can honestly say that I would die for a good cause like this one. I love my Granny!
Here goes another tuff topic for me to speak about which is what would I kill for? To me this question that you simply should never ask a person. In my eyes if you have to kill a person than you are not heartfelt people with any purpose on earth. I believe that we aren’t place here to kill this is such a horrible thing to do. At this point it maybe a double standard by saying if you kill it must be done by law enforcer because there job is to serve and protect. So the only way I could see it to be okay if they are trying to prevent another human being for harming other people’s lives. Even if an officer is has someone holding a gun, knife or any other object at them to cause bodily harm so, they have to do the next best thing in life to protect themselves for this foolishness.
I love to watch the television shows like Snapped, the First 48 Hours and anything else involving crimes. In these shows it is a shame what a person would take your live for. One of the young women decided to kill the other woman that her boyfriend was with because she was mad and hurt. Is this what we are down to so, we can save a relationship or even show love. Now, you have through your live away just because the man cheated on you and you thought you would get away with murder and I it would be okay. This is reasoning on why I think there is nothing on earth to kill for?
In other aspects of life I guess people go to all levels of things to get what they want. You have drug addicts that are already sick that will kill for drugs, you have people that are coming on hard times that
After writing on the topic of Live? Die? Kill? Really make the light bulb go on to see what you would do in each category because most of us have possibly never thought about what you would kill for? It’s such a horrible thing to do. But I guess a lot of thinking caps went on with a ton of food for thought to help us get through this essay. We all should love one another.
will kill just to get your gold jewelry, kill to get your car to gain a short ride for free and even try to kill if they think you a witness for something and have enough information to get them incarnated. We can go on for days on way people kill but, this is a topic that I can honestly do. Something like killing is such a hard pill to swallow to do. If you have a guilty conscious, heart, mind or soul this is something that you could never do to another live that is here on earth that people love so, dearly. -

Who Would Survive?
In this assignment, it was really hard to determine what to do. I was just confused on who to save versus who the kill because everyone has some form of value to life so, who am I to determine when to take it. My reasoning was all over the place for an example, I thought we should keep Mrs. Hernandez because she already had an extremely hard life. Just wanted to give her some form of outlet on moving forward. After the radiation levels are safe. Show her how people can stick together and care for one another. Plus, Ms. Hernandez has a newborn that she is nursing that need her and will not take up that much space. Mary White is eight years old and I feel she will bring love to the shelter and brighten everyone spirits like kids do. Mr. Newton I wouldn’t sacrifice because, he doesn’t seem to be a happy person and would bring everyone down at some point. I did decide to save Father Philip he will have the inspiration and positive outlook on getting through this terrible time. I was kind of spectacle about Dr. Garcia he had already experienced two heart attacks but, he was a medical assistance to those who need it. Mr. Young would be a very good person to save he is very handy, good health and he could be the one everyone could get help from. This is where I get stuck on trying to figure out who to kill. Now, I really want to save the Lang family, but I can only save seven people. At this point, I guess I would sacrifice the Lang Family. I feel there isn’t anything that can help everyone in the shelter. I feel Mrs. Lang would be basically, giving all of her time to her son because of his learning disability. I choose Mr. Lang also because, I wasn’t saving his family. I know that is bad. This is the hardest but, easiest assignment that I had to every do. Everyone, in my group was also having a hard time. They had hearts of gold and just didn’t want to sacrifice the kids at all. One person was saying that the kids would be a promise for the future to move forward. I guess when it comes to down to the kids my attitude has always been positive and wanted to sacrifice for them. I did learn how I had strong thoughts on why I would kill or sacrifice a person life. In class, when we had this discussion I felt that this conversation could of got pretty ugly. The difference of opinions where all over the place. With saying that is part of the conversation I felt that was difficult. The way the man look in the picture and is how I feel when I was putting thought in completing this task. I did the best I could. Overall, this was a good thinking assignment to see how far a person would sacrifice, someone around them.

Your Mother and I
As I’m reading this story it seems if it’s going to be about a mother and her child that is so dearly connected. That you can use your imagine what trip or adventure that they going to take. It sounds like fun by reading the title of the story never would think the turn it was taking. In this story you have to stay focus and follow the twist that it is taking. Now, it is indicating how all the 20,000 troops of U.N. can be deployed all within thirty-six hours to try and go save the world. This sounds so bad that do but, it’s the war that they are fighting. These piece of writing which I believe is informal because they are everywhere not in one mainstream of information. To me this story hasn’t gained my interest so, it hard for me to keep what’s going on now. Now they lost me again because they are trying to get the girls in bed. I guess they are trying to have sex. It’s getting more complicated. They did come up with a cure for AIDS so, you can’t affect the world. This seems as if they are a setting of all females that had a lot cheating, diseases and even troops fighting. Overall, to me this was a very confused situation that involved kids and they don’t even understanding what going on to make things has balanced. It was a very confusing reading for me to get into.

The ecological literacy is a strong understanding on the environment that we live in. It’s more involved when you green they recycling, saving the trees and more focused on the trash on the streets in our everyday life that keeps the pollution down. When these things are under control then you are able to have a cleaner streets and saving the earth. In order to make this a better community or even a cleaner place to live you should have everyone in the community involved and as a whole you can make it a more conscious effort in cleaning the world you live on. Just like the article states you need partnership. I know it’s a lot of work to make some of these things to happen but, at the end it is well worth it and cleaner pollution for the world we stay in. Also, when I was reading this article it informed me of the various forms of disturbance that it can cause from the ecosystem. When the ecosystem is disturbed then it can cause the web of life to move our daily routine around for the worst. You can obtain bad weather, polluted environment and even unsafe conditions for our kids to be raised in. It that’s the case the ponds where the fish is swimming in is polluted, all the food growing out outside is bad and evens the air that we are breathing. Just believe in yourself, stay focus and be positive of all the changes and this will allow you become the best you can be.

As I read this article about the man it is explaining about the soldier as he is representing our nation and the entire horrible and violent act that take place. It enough descripts what the soldier physically looks like after the situation tool place. Already I’m thinking how is this soldier going through such a painful event? It doesn’t matter how much training you have it doesn’t prepare you for this. But, now as I go along reading more of this article it makes be believed that the man was a soldier at some point and this brought back bad memories of his past. I gathered that reasoning because, he just couldn’t come to grasp. It was like his reaction was so, real. Sometimes, in life when you experience something you can get over it but, there may be something that reminds you on what happen. Some people can move on like nothing ever happen and others can’t get that experience out of there mind. It’s just sad that this poor guy is going kind of crazy in this house alone. Too bad there isn’t anyone in the house that can help calm down or just simply be there with him. It seems like he is extremely confuse on what move to make next. My overall opinion is the writer really has the mind going on what’s next going to happen. It was a great story that made you actually envision what the scene looks like after the soldier was shot. Great story!

Live for? Die for? Kill for? The Reason’s To Be Here…… The reason to live is simple for me because, I enjoy the air I breathe and the things I have here earth to enjoy. If I could have died for her and let her stay on earth a little while longer I think it would have been an honor. I know that sounds a little crazy but, I think it makes a lot of sense to me. My Granny held the foundation of her family together. Not, to say it has fallen apart but, it’s so much harder to keep things on level waters. Great paper, Dawn! To start off, I agree with some of the things you said in your introduction. I think if we had more notice, this assignment would be less stressful. It was difficult for our group members to find available dates to volunteer that also worked with the shelter we were volunteering at’s availability. However I think you could expand more about your group’s chosen social issue and why you guys are passionate about it. Headings would also help organize the paper and make the paper flow better. “I would have never thought something for a good cause would be this big of a headache to accomplish something good”- I totally understand, hard work can be stressful, but hey at least you have the rest of your group to help you! Multiple people can get a lot more done in a short span of time than one person usually can. It sounds like many groups also had the same trouble yours did in finding an organization to volunteer with in a short amount of time. You’d think this would be the easy part, but it’s not! I’m glad you mentioned that many places have background checks and such and check people prior to volunteering. Even though I’m sure people are happy for the extra help, they don’t make it that easy and it’s probably because they just want to make sure people are going to be respectful and make the organization look good. I’m glad you got to experience “Share Your Soles” and I wish that I could have. I agree that a church is a good setting for people to come and seek help of varying kinds. For people going through such trauma, not knowing if they are going to be able to feed themselves day to day- the havoc this must wreck on a person physically and mentally is unbelievable. People need guidance in such dark times, and seeing people like ourselves volunteering to help shows that even though we are in a better place than them we still care and want to change the fact they are struggling. “I feel by given this time back to the community it can help someone out there get on their feet, let them know someone do care or give them something that they never thought would or could happen to them.”- I agree, and I think this statement nails exactly what we were all hoping to get out of this project. Of course we were concerned about our course grades and projects, but overall from this project we were able to see the higher purpose. It really does benefit us to help those who are less fortunate than us, and if you believe in karma than one day you will find your efforts have been worth it. Maybe you will find it within the smile of a hungry person you are sharing food with, or maybe you will find it one day when you are going through hard times and someone goes out of their way to reach out and help. Regardless, I was interested to hear your perspective about this and I think this is a great first draft. It will be interesting to hear about what your volunteer experience was like in more detail. Good job!

I had the same reaction when we first had to do this project. I thought this is going t o be an overwhelming project. The main time consumer was trying finding a organization to go volunteer at. I liked your idea of volunteer at a daycare. That seems like a good place to help out. I liked your statement that those that are sentenced to community service do not have a problem finding a place to do their hours at. We “normal” people have to go through great amounts of research to find a place to volunteer at. Like you also said, the clock is ticking. I am always thinking that when it comes to this project. Time is not my friend with this project. However, everything has been working out so far. After reading about the medical exam and such, I know how time consuming that can be. One place I volunteered at last summer, I had to go through that process. The process of finger printing, medical exam, and background check took forever for a place I volunteered. If I remember correctly, it took about four weeks to complete that process. We simply do not have time to go through that with a project like the one we have been assigned. I have volunteered at a PADS site. It really was different from anything else that I have done before. When I volunteered at PADS, it was during high school for service hours. It really gave me a different perspective on how some people end up. It is really sad that homelessness is something that has grown over the years.
This paper is off to a great start. After you complete the service learning event, I truly believe that this will be a great paper. I also think that it is difficult at times when completing a big project like this. I have never really liked group projects. You have a good goal as you stated in one of your paragraph. I never really thought to ever look into how an organization “survives” without volunteers. Reading you statement made me want to contact the organization my group volunteered at and ask them how the organization runs if you did not have volunteers.
One thing you might want to state in your opening paragraph is what your topic/theme was for this project. I could not really find out it really was while reading this paper. Your paper looks well organized. As I said, once you complete the service learning event, it will be easier to finish the paper.
I also like your closing paragraph. I also believe that we should try to gain as much as we can out of this experience/project. Even though we give up a great deal of time to complete this project, we should take the time to really realize how some people are not as fortunate as us.
