Splatter

Splatter is an extension site for Mike McGuire's Composition course at MVCC. It's a place to move the conversation beyond the confines of our classroom. Let your voice be heard.

Note: Open registration for this site is now closed. If you are a student and have yet to register, contact me, or see me in class.

There are a few basic activities that you should be doing on an ongoing basis as part of this course. They are repeated activities and critical for your success here.

Post under “Reading/Research Journal” on this site once a week, focusing on the reading of the course. Each post should center on your response to one cited information source and be at least 250 words long.

Publish a 1250 to 1500 word draft (or a revision) to this site as assigned—in response to the given prompt. Each of these works should be posted to this site on time under “Work for Review.”

During the week immediately following a major draft due date, read and comment on the latest written work of your classmates' that is categorized as “Work for Review.” Respond to at least three pieces. Start with your action/review team, but always do at least three.

As assigned throughout the course, complete a "Personal Action Report and Self-Assessment." This is done through Splatter and submitted privately to the instructor. It is an essential part of the course and should be done thoroughly and thoughtfully.

Using this site instead of distributing paper throughout the semester will save approximately 19,200 sheets of paper when all is said and done (about 200 sheets/student), which is the amount of typical copy paper that can be harvested from 2.3 whole trees or about 172.5 linear feet of 1-foot diameter tree trunk. The trees thank you dearly by giving you oxygen to breathe. :-)
